Maia is costume designer, Celeste DeBarbaraque's assistant.  She mostly does sewing, but is learning a lot about design from Celeste.

Maia is somewhat timid, and shy.  She doesn't like crowds or lots of noise.  She likes to play her violin, read, and play tennis, but her favorite thing to do is paint.   She especially likes doing watercolors.  Maia is a college intern at KMAS.  Celeste is an excellent teacher, and Maia admires her very much.  She has been learning a lot about costume design.  Maia is a quite person, and doesn't share her thoughts often, but she is a very good listener.  She also loves the outdoors.  She likes gardening, hiking, camping, swimming, and anything she can do, while enjoying the outdoors.

Maia was adopted from Japan by Andrew and Elyse Carpenter when she was only three months old.  The Carpenters adopted her, and raised her in Boulder, Colorado.  She knows nothing about her biological parents, and shows no interest in meeting them.  All she know about her life before she was adopted is her homeland, Japan, and her birthday.  Maia loves her adopted parents, and has a very close relationship with them both.
