Yelena moved to America from Russia this past summer, after splitting with her longtime coach that led her to the 1999 World bronze medal. She knew no English and nobody, but that quickly changed. She became involved with Matti Sorenson, which didn't last. Yelena has been perhaps the most consistent female skater this season, winning her three Grand Prix events and her fifth straight Russian National title. Yelena is very loyal to her homeland, and is anxious to move back there after the Olympics are over. She is a generous and sweet person, but sometimes a bit bitchy and snobby.Other Noteworthy News/Facts:
Yelena was romantically involved with Matti Sorensen. She is now involved with longtime family friend and 1992 Olympic Ice Dance Champion, Anton Nikonarov.
